Whoooo, what an E3 this year huh? For those who have the G4 channel, many got to see a variety of games that I think, are gonna be totally awesome!
While I did have some disappointments (Wut? No new Mega Man capcom?) I was happy to see a bunch of new games that are in progress as we speak. Including...*Holds breath*
The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword!
YES! A new zelda game! Interesting enough, they decided to combining the cartoony CG shading style of the Wind Waker and sequel games with the serious style of Twilight Princess. So it's brightly colored and fresh.
And that was just the first thing Nintendo showed off, proving that they HAVE been listening to the fans. They're just taking their time to work on them.
Meanwhile, on their rival's front, Microsoft and Sony had introduced a number of interesting games themselves. Microsoft seems to be focused on adding more games (Mostly FPSs, including a game by ID software, the mad men behind Doom, Quake and Wolfenstein, "RAGE") as well as the introduction of the Xbox 360 Slim while also revealing Project Natal as Kinect. (Pronounced as "Connect")
Sony was intent on showing their own motion control softward, the Playstation "Move", which looked like microphones with shiny balls at the end.
And while at first, I simply thought of it as a rip-off and an attempt to copy Nintendo, I must say that they did a good job with it, rip-off or not. One game, "Sorcery", which they demonstrated with it was very very cool, having you control a apprentice sorcerer and casting magic spells. The story was....ehhh, but using the controller like a wand and the motion being surprising accurate, got me interested.
As far as games go, all systems brought the heat. Microsoft has RAGE, Gears of War 3, Metal Gear Rising (A new tale in the Metal Gear franchise exclusively for Xbox) Halo: Reach, and Call of Duty: Black Ops along with other games. Generally, they had solid games but weren't at their best. Maybe next year, right?
Nintendo, after a bunch of disappointments now have a solid set of hardcore games for hardcore players. Along with Zelda: Skyward Sword, they also introduced a new Kirby Game called Kirby: Epic Yarn, which I think is a spiritual successor to the DS game Canvas Curse. There was also a first glimpse at Epic Mickey, from the people that made Deus Ex and a new Kid Icarus game, which made people happy for sure.
They also brought back the Donkey Kong Country franchise with Donkey Kong Country Returns (Personally, I was hoping for a sequel to DK64) aswell as a full remake of the legendary FPS Goldeneye 007. Without it, we wouldn't have Halo so give it props people. There were many other games but the biggest surprise (And my own personal groan) was the introduction of the Nintendo 3DS. It's a DS...with 3D...without the glasses. I haven't even gotten the original DS and we already have yet another DS on the way? Wasn't it just last year we had the DSI?
Well apparently, everyone else was for it...*Shrugs*
Lastly was Sony. Like I said, the focus was their Playstation Move. But they had games too. Killzone 3 was a smash. While not a fan of FPS and knowing little of the series in general, I gotta say the game looked so good I wanted to play it. (Jet packs look sweeeeet). This E3 for Sony also marked the return of the legendary fighting franchise Mortal Kombat. And it looks like it's back to it's roots and focused on a more 2D plane, like MK2 and Ultimate MK3. Look out Street Fighter, MK's back and it's mean. FATALITY.
There was also Portal 2, and Gran Turismo 5 (Oh boy, car porn! Haha) and to everyone's shock, the clown with the wicked grin made a surprise appearance. That's right, Twisted Metal is back with a vengeance and it looks really really good. No joke either, SweetTooth ain't clowing around.
There were a lot of games at this E3. And a lot of new tech. All it makes me do is wish I had some spare cash on me to get them all. But the game that truly made E3...was the game that made E3 last year. Star Wars: The Old Republic. Yes, the first playable demo of Bioware's ambitious and epic MMO was finally revealed along with a new trailer. And it looked gorgeous. Damn, Bioware really knows what they're doing and it definitely won't disappoint when it finally comes out.
Alas, E3 is over...
So what? The vibe is still strong and the burning blood of gamers have come to a full boil.
Cheers to the big three, and to another year of epic games.
