This is more of a rant but it's about an anime, so I put it here.
Keikashi
Love it or hate it.
Kekaishi is that new anime they just put on the saturday night block of Adult Swim on Cartoon Network. And I'll just say this.
I don't like it. Not at all. The characters are plastic, the humor is dry and the story is mediocre at best. I like anime, and there are a lot of anime and manga titles that I do like. Keikashi...is not.
There are other animes they could bring on that would be much more interesting, like Vandread. Or how about bringing Back Gundam Wing or G-Gundam but uncensored?
Or maybe they could play more Anime movies? Street Fighter II, the animated movie was awesome. Maybe Blood: The Last Vampire? (The movie Blood+ was based off of) That was good too.
Maybe it was the translation of the series from Japanese to english that ruined it (That's usually a suspect of good anime going bad). Maybe it's because the anime had just started and hasn't gotten a chance to really get good. Or maybe it's as I said. It's not a good anime.
This is just my opinion. To fans of the series, I apologize. But to me, it is just not that interesting. It's like that just because it's an anime with action-violence it means it's gonna be interesting. Wrong. Some could say the same of DBZ and Inuyasha. But they had genuinely interesting and funny characters with vibrancy and flair. Even with the poor voice acting in some aspects. (INUYASHA!)
My final word on this anime?
Comeon Adult Swim, you can do better. You got it right before with Cowboy Bebop, Eureka 7 and Ghost In The Shell. In fact, the idea of comparing it to Cowboy Bebop, even while saying CB is the better is offensive. I am offended by this, yes.
Basically, no. Just no. Kekaishi, go back to the drawing board and work on your right hook a bit more, then come back and we'll see what you can do. As you are now...I don't like you.

I haven't watched it, neither on Adult swim or on the net. And based on your post, I think I won't do it now. But could you maybe bring up some things that you didn't like? What's it about anyway. I have heard of it, but never had much interest in it. And I'm too lazy to research myself as well.

Keikkashi or Barrier Master as the original japanese name is translated is a supernatural/action anime along the lines of Bleach and Yu Yu Hakusho. It's about these two characters named Yoshimori Sumimura and Tokine Yukimura, rival heirs to this power called Kekkai, which they used to summon barriers for offensive and defensive purposes. What makes it so difficult is that Yoshimori actually has a crush on Tokine that he's had since they were little kids, which makes things all the more difficult. As the backstory of this manga/anime goes, some time ago during the feudal era of Japan, a Warlord (Who's name is not stated) was attacked by demons who wanted his hidden power...or something like that in order to take over the world.
So in order to protect himself, the lord summoned a Mage named Tokimori Hazama. (Who look more like a Monk than Mage =/) Tokimori and his two students fought off the demons and apparently saved the world. Then they died...of illness and the feudal lord was killed. His hidden power, along with his body was buried at a site dubbed Karasumori, which happens to be under the two main characters High School in the modern age. How about that?
Anyways, now they spend their days dealing with high school life, while balancing it with their jobs as Kekkai users. And as Kekkai users, their job is to keep Karasumori away from the demons, called Ayakashi who still seek to use that power to rule the world.
Meh, maybe the manga is better? Usually is, as I'm just going on the english-translated anime. You should make your own descision on the matter and check it out for yourself. Cause as I said, this is just my own opinion on it.

The overall story and plot of Kekkaishi is good, I like their powers too since I'm a fan of using normally defense tactics for offensive purposes (I also like tanks ). But the fact that it takes place and (as it seems right now) limited to the school sorta ruins the show... I think that it would become a better show if it started taking place in more inventive areas. Even events occurring around the town would be a good start. I'm sticking with it for now since they have only started and based on the intro have yet to introduce all the characters. So I guess you can say I'm in the middle for the most part. I like certain aspects of the series but I still have my beefs.

I was thinking the other day, what if the show is the way it is at the moment because it's only starting out?
Sure the way the show is going it's not looking all that good, but I remember when Bleech was somewhat like this. Ichigo was simply killing one Hallow after another with these events taking place around his town. This is kinda like what Kakkaishi is about right now, except it's limited to their school. My thinking is that sooner or later there is going to be some big event that is going to push the plot foward and to a new level. I admit that the anime is a bit dull but I think that there is going to be an episode that is going to change the direction of the show. Maybe something related the the shadow orgination (think that's the name).
Anywho, this is a thought that popped into my head a few days ago, and thought I'd share it.

I did comment on the fact that the show did just start. And most shows start out kinda on the flailing side cause they haven't gotten into the groove yet plot wise. And while the show is starting to show some of its charm, as I've watched the show more, I've also realized new flaws in the premise. On the topic of Bleach, It's true that early on, it's Ichigo killing Hollow after Hollow, but each Hollow battle often introduced a interesting characteristic that flows well with the plot. Five key points revolves around the introductions of the other characters: Orihime, Uryu, Chad and the Mod-Soul Kon (Objectionally, you can add Don Konoji in there as well) . Not to mention the battle with the vicious Grand Fisher. There is a bit of history and plot development with each battle in the early parts that would eventually lead up to Rukia being taken back to the Soul Society and beginning the arc of the same name. Kekkaishi has so far only shown about two real plot significant events: The introduction of the girl who can see ghosts, and more recently, Tokine's fear of cockroaches and other bugs due to an event that happened in her childhood (Resulting in scars on her arm). At this point, I think the story is going too slow, and the action aspect is not very strong (I've seen more cake making then actual fighting in the show <_< In it's defense, it's still far faster than Dragon Ball and Pokemon ever were, but not by much. There may be hope for it if they start...Oh, I dunno "Move their asses with the plot already!" In any case, I stick by my previous comments in prior posts. And remember, my comments are directed at the english-dubbed anime. These comments are not directed at the manga, which I have given the benefit of the doubt. On a side note: What's with Yoshimori's hair? By far that has got to be the most ridiculous hairstyle I have ever seen. It kinda poofs out all over the place. Permanent bed-head, hah!

I agree that Bleach had a waaaaay better start than Kekkaishi. Bleach actually had plot interwoven in their introduction arc. Whereas with Kekkaishi seems to be (as you [Zir0-N] have said) more cake making rather than action and plot and character development. To be fair to the anime the whole cake making thing they have going on is related to the whole Yoshimori has a crush on Tokine thing. It still doesn't help with the anime overall, but still...lol.
Heh, I agree they aren't moving fast enough with the plot. As for it being slower than DBZ I cant say since I haven't been with that anime from the beginning per say. As for comparing it to Pokemon, I cant really say that anime has ever really had a solid plot outside of collecting Badges and so on and so forth, but I digress. Kekkaishi is a good overall plot anime that just isn't succeeding in delivering fast enough and is mostly wasting time with what appear to be bad filler episodes.
